In their second season as creative directors for J. Press York Street, the Ovadia twins took pieces of classic American sporting apparel and injected them with a youthful and elegant aesthetic.
“The idea is American pastimes,” said Shimon Ovadia, who designs the line with his brother Ariel. “We took classics, mixed them with sporty elements and put them in a blender.”
Among the traditional items with a twist were moleskin cotton suits layered under quilted form-fitting fishing vests, cargo pants with fish netting for pockets, denim shirts with a hunting patch, shaggy dog Shetland sweaters in 15 different colors, a distressed leather varsity jacket, a regatta stripe blazer with a bullion patch and a vintage football sweater that had been “ripped and repaired” into a modern interpretation of a Friday-night staple.
For Ivy League prepsters, the collection was enough to make them feel like they’d died and gone to heaven.
