“Inspiration came from the genre of tech-noir — a fusion of film noir and science fiction,” explained Saif Bakir, one half of Swedish-born design duo Common, alongside girlfriend Emma Hedlund. “The cuts are classic, but we mixed them with technical fabrics like bonded jersey,” added Hedlund.

Their signature hybrid tailoring with its sports inflection saw key pieces such as classically cut long shirts (updated with water-repellent zips and knitted collars) atop Common logo roll necks, an overcoat with puffer jacket panel and a suit jacket featuring a moss-colored vest made from plastic bonded onto wool. The film “Gattica” was another reference, and futuristic prints on a red bomber were the fruits of a collaboration with digital artist Gerhard Manz.
