Shopping in your grandfather’s closet might sound a little odd, but it was the message of Orley’s cute and quirky fall men’s wear lineup. “They’re beautiful vintage pieces we recreated in a subverted way,” said Alex Orley, one of the trio of designers for the New York-based label, which also introduced its first women’s collection.

That vibe worked best in a Fifties-inspired polo and matching sweater in a zigzag knit. The brand’s knitwear heritage was also showcased in a braided cashmere sweater constructed from 10 different yarns. “Each piece takes over a week to make,” Orley said.

The new women’s line was the product of demand, Orley said, noting that “women have been wearing the men’s sweaters and we started sizing down to men’s XS.” The six looks were in perfect sync with the men’s collection — “It’s the same mind-set,” Orley said — which translated to a bright-green zigzag cardigan and matching polo as well as luscious hand-knits. The latter included a beautiful chain-stitch sweater, a mixed-weave skirt and a textural chevron intarsia sleeveless top. All were perfectly cozy yet sophisticated and chic.
