David Sarfati has opened his 13 Bonaparte line to a wider retail audience lately. Showing at the trendy MAN fair in Paris for the second time, he will take his fall collection to New York for a presentation on Friday at Hotel Americano. The hotel’s decor is likely to serve as a good backdrop for his workwear-tinged male wardrobe. Think a French Dickies with offbeat details and constructions. The 13 Bonaparte line is strong in denim, one of its bestsellers, offered this season in different weights, washes and fabrics, including a dark indigo dyed canvas, and in a high-waisted, pleated front chino shape or jogging pants style. There also are hooded tops and a trenchcoat cut like a robe. Other new fabrics include a rustic looking jumbo corduroy, out of which Sarfatti cut his kimono style jackets, and a thick black wool used for a zipped blouson worn with matching pants, offering a casual option to formal suiting.
