Sophie Méchaly channeled romantic Seventies for her fall collection, featuring Holly Hobbie on her mood board. The French designer discovered the era’s popular illustrated character, which also became a rag doll, on a trip to New York when she was a kid.
For men, the retro-flavored lineup included a purple suit jacket with a pattern of dog portraits. A swan and floral motif ran across an orange button-up shirt. For daytime, at the office, she offered a rust-colored suit jacket and matching trousers, in fine-wale corduroy. Adding to the varied options for outerwear was a long, double-breasted plaid coat in gray and black with touches of red.
For the women’s pre-fall collection, distressed jeans with wide legs were embellished with suede patches. There were lots of flowers, including a three-quarter length puffer jacket decorated with rose prints. An image of Méchaly’s fluffy white cat was printed on another coat, set amidst blue roses and pale pink poppies. Watch out, Choupette — it looks like you’ve got competition.
