A year into its existence, Baja East graduated from presentation to runway, which automatically puts more pressure on the clothes. Perhaps too much too soon for Scott Studenberg and John Targon’s concept of luxurious unisex loungewear, which had a “nomadic seaside desert meets the streets” theme for spring, according to Targon. The designers abolished black for turquoise and ivory, which they used on ikat bajas and wrap skirts, as well as cashmere shorts, tanks and sweaters. The look was casual cool, but, aside from a raw-hemmed trench and a pair of silver sweatpants, a little low key for the runway.
