Oftentimes, nautical-inspired collections sink under the weight of literalness, but Lacoste creative director Felipe Oliveira Baptista’s take was definitely seaworthy. Looking back at the line’s nautical heritage, he began with a couple of looks that he said were “inspired by the first yachtsman tailoring.” But there was nothing retro about these sleek pieces. Case in point: a gray midlength vest-dress with a dropped waist. Cool, athletic striped T-shirts and dresses in primary colors upped the punch factor.
For men, Baptista added streetwear elements to traditional sailing clothes. The results were young and fresh: side zip-up shirts, simple silhouettes layered with anoraks, and cool technical details, such as melded-together fabrics.
