Mehmet Ali spun his childhood fascination with “2001: A Space Odyssey” – for which Hardy Amies did the costumes – into a collection filled with fabrics, shapes and details inspired by astro travel. “I was thinking about high-altitude flight and fabrics that perform — like breathable cotton and nylon, and I think it looks chic paired with tailoring,” said the designer.

The collection seamlessly blended tailored clothing and workwear, as in a nylon multipocket vest slipped over an olive topcoat, elasticized waistbands on the jackets of seersucker suits and fluttery black translucent jackets revealing a grid pattern – also inspired by the film – on the shirt beneath.

Colors took their cue from aviators’ and astronauts’ closets in olive green, orange neon and the deep, dark blue of the night sky.
