The twin brothers behind Ovadia & Sons, Ariel and Shimon Ovadia, are obviously industry darlings, with everyone from Victor Cruz and R. Kelly to Neiman’s Russ Patrick sitting front row.
Their spring collection was full of solid commercial pieces, including a navy and black varsity jacket and cargo sweatpants.
The origins of Ovadia & Sons are in tailored clothing and the line works best when it stays within that sphere. A showstopper was a nearly floor length belted navy trench coat followed by a paper-thin navy suit over a white tunic shirt and an evening-inspired double-breasted silk suit.
But their message got diluted when they turned to overused athletic references and overwhelming prints. Although it’s logical for them to incorporate other elements into their DNA, a more-organic integration would have helped.
