For pre-fall, the design team at Maison Martin Margiela mainly looked to shapes inspired by the Renaissance, thus the collection’s sculptured and distorted garments. A gray mixed-knit mohair sweater, for instance, subtly looked like a camouflage pattern and was layered with a black biblike top.

The strong outerwear channeled a similar vibe, i.e., a cotton canvas trench with volume focused on the back.

Layers of wrapped tulle added a romantic sensibility to some of the looks.
