“Real clothes that you can live and work in” was Monique Lhuillier’s mantra for pre-fall, resulting in a collection that was all about relaxed elegance. “I wanted to make beautiful clothes, but also have them be more understated,” she said. “I felt like a tuxedo was a great starting point.”
Lhuillier designed black and white versions, which, in addition to her signature beaded gowns in bordeaux and navy, are sure to be red-carpet staples. There was also an abstract orchid print seen on sportswear separates and evening gowns, which Lhuillier updated with asymmetric hemlines and one-shoulder detailing. Also new was an emphasis on daywear, with a polished take on denim suiting and trench coats. “It’s elegant so it can take you more places,” the designer said.
