Nanette Lepore infused a casualness into her pre-fall lineup, keeping in mind “easy pieces for the beach or the city,” a point she drove home with gauzy peasant blouses that came embroidered or off-the-shoulder. She gave her girl plenty of breezy silk dresses in floral and paisley prints, and experimented with an indigo dying technique, which mimicked the look of denim on a chic lace shirtdress. Cut-out sweaters and blanket-knit ponchos with fringe seemed just right for chilly midsummer nights.
