Stacey Bendet worked a “librarian chic” mood, blurring the lines between sexy and studious in her latest pre-fall collection. “It was about taking these kind of retro-sexy dresses, but showing them with embroidery,” she said during a preview. “There’s a little twist to everything.”
Tie-neck blouses, embroidered vests, lightweight tweed separates and crocheted “grandma” cardigans fell on the geeky side of chic, while a slinky, ribbed knit dress was a take on the seductive secretary. Paisley and floral prints and an autumnal palette nodded at Seventies vintage, which Bendet updated with edgy contrasts. For example, a cropped leather motorcycle jacket toughened up a mustard knit turtleneck and embroidered denim pencil skirt.
