Pre-fall marks a year since Jennifer Noyes and Alex Gilbert launched M. Martin under the premise of  basics-plus — or the T-shirt equivalent of  “the search unicorn,” as Gilbert put it. “Whenever we think we’re missing something when we’re getting dressed, we put it in the collection.”

 

They’ve built a strong wardrobe foundation for women who wear ribbed cashmere, poplin shirting and a nice trench as a uniform. For pre-fall, Noyes and Gilbert fleshed out their classic, sporty minimalist standards with more fashion denim, including a  wrap jacket with contrasting patch pockets, crepe de chine slipdresses, non-silly riffs on pajama dressing and a cool, semiquirky pants shape — wide-legged and cropped just above the ankle.
