Nanette Lepore had an unexpected starting point for pre-fall: farmers. Specifically, she found her muses in Katie Baldwin and Amanda Merrow, who run the Amber Waves Farm in Amagansett, N.Y. and are more glamorous than most field hands. “They’re beautiful girls; smart and stylish,” Lepore said. “In the summer, they throw these big, fabulous dinner parties in the fields.”

 

Lepore envisioned her girl at one of the fabulous farm dinners, wearing such feminine, floaty fair as crocheted lace dresses with bell sleeves and silk off-the-shoulder blouses with ruffled trim. Lepore’s sportier separates —  a washed satin blazer covered in violet floral embroidery — added some structure to the frou.
