Sachin and Babi Ahluwalia have replaced their contemporary label Sachin & Babi with Sachin & Babi Noir, with a focus on eveningwear. Launched as a sibling collection two seasons ago, Noir is now the company’s only line.

 

By the look of pre-fall, the Ahluwalias are moving in the right direction. A sensual, Latin flair was expressed through bright colors, hand-painted florals, appliqués and embroideries drawn from the flower crowns Frida Kahlo wore. The designers don’t consider evening a gown-only occasion. Flirty, youthful separates — ruffled, one-shoulder blouses and silk evening tops with exaggerated bows — also played on the theme, riffing matador style. There was a lightness to silk jacquard and floral-printed fil coupé gowns, which came in trendy off-the-shoulder and cutaway silhouettes.
