Ryan Lobo and Ramon Martin made Nina Simone their primary pre-fall muse after seeing a documentary on her life, with secondary references culled from the Sixties — Simone’s prime — including Enrico Natali’s photographs of Detroit and Malick Sidibé’s portraits of youth culture in Mali. Lobo and Martin made a cohesive yet eclectic medley of the range of Sixties and Seventies influences. To that end, patchwork was a major theme on items spanning upcycled denim — a category Lobo and Martin intend to grow — to luxurious leather trenches and great trousers. More playfully feminine were vintage floral scarf prints tweaked in new color ways on silk blouses and pleated one-shoulder dresses.
