Following his spring collection largely inspired by the work of Carmen Herrera, Albert Kriemler zeroed in on another female artist, one whose work wasn’t discovered until after her death. Vivian Maier, an American street photographer who died in 2009, worked as a nanny for most of her life and took photographs as a hobby. She never published any of her work, which was discovered at auction and recognized after a collector published some of her photographs online. She’s been the subject of two documentary films and is now represented by a gallery, which is how Kriemler discovered her.
He went a bit literal in his references, using one of Maier’s photographs as a floral print and printing images of Maier carrying her camera with silhouettes done in a slightly retro way in a nod to her personal style. It was a cheerful collection with fresh color — green and chambray blue — and the impeccable Akris finish to daywear, classic suiting and eveningwear.
