With the spring 2021 look book, Missoni inaugurated a new way of presenting its creations: more straightforward, immediate, punchy.
While in the past the brand relied on layering, delivering a more opulent image, now the company is adopting a different approach, one focused more on showing stand-alone pieces rather than very styled outfits.
For pre-fall, creative director Angela Missoni combined this new desire for authenticity with research — for ultimate comfort. Deep diving into leisurewear, she presented a wide range of wool and cashmere joggers, sweaters and cropped tops lined with a soft stretch fabric.
Blurring the boundaries between day and night, chunky cardigans with shawl collars, which were rendered in beautiful dégradé colors, were layered over lightweight printed minidresses. Slender blazers where worn with five-pocket pants or joggers, while a new emphasis was put on solid colors that replaced bold graphic patterns on viscose and jersey styles with a tactile appeal.
Missoni couldn’t renounce some evening fun and she created a selection of shimmering jumpsuits and body hugging dresses with plunging V-necks and crisscross details.
The collection definitely showed a new face of the Missoni brand, one that’s sexier and friskier. Some might miss the cozier, more poetic and bohemian image of the past, but new consumers might appreciate this urban, younger vibe.
