For a brand that has specialized in elevating women’s work attire and event dressing, Veronica Beard has quite seamlessly transitioned during quarantine into a more casual space.
Beginning with spring’s “off-duty” approach out of necessity and continuing into pre-fall, founders Veronica Miele Beard and Veronica Swanson Beard have sought to inject a carefree approach into classic wardrobe items to great effect. Titled “Follow the Sun,” their pre-fall lineup was cast with washed silks, faded tie-dye, faded denim and jacquards cut on the reverse (duller) side to give the collection an overall worn-in quality.
“You’ll look amazing walking in but your outfit isn’t screaming,” Swanson Beard noted. Indeed, there was a measured balance of newness with approachability, as in reimagined loosened tailoring paired with cuffed trousers or a jumpsuit cut in a distressed tumbled leather.
They made a case for matching sets — as sweatsuits or in leather, printed crepe, or an army daisy jacquard — as easy and sophisticated outfits for casual gatherings, and worked a posh hand at this year’s crafty movement with pretty patchwork florals and a denim-plaid hybrid jacket. This carefree and bohemian approach suits the brand well: for women who have relied on Veronica Beard for all aspects of chic work attire, these newfound relaxed silhouettes carry the same worry-free, easy vibes for staying at home.
