“I was heading to the Santa Monica mountains most weekend with my daughter, just driving through the rolling canyons, listening to music and escaping from being connected to a computer all the time,” Vince creative director Caroline Belhumeur said. “It was a lovely moment that inspired the collection, this idea of an escape, in an optimistic way.”

Using California, where the brand is based, as both backdrop for the look book (and film) and inspiration for the collection’s soft palette, Vince’s pre-fall lineup displayed what the brand does best: offer a wardrobe of understated luxury. Open necklines and backs, like a standout knit black jumpsuit, relaxed knits and lightweight textures — a cream skirt with sheer, Tencel overlay or a washed silk trench atop a matching drapey blazer and pant — filled the collection with refined ease. From little tops and bodysuits tucked into oversize pants and fluid skirts to monochromatic dresses, the well-rounded Vince assortment encapsulated the look of quiet sophistication.
