The ever-adventurous Kate Spade gal is off and running again for resort, and this time, according to creative director Deborah Lloyd, she’s evoking the “effortless chic” of the French channeled through an American studying the arts in Paris, i.e., a collegiate all-American sportswear combined with the classic style of Sixties French icons such as Juliette Greco and a young Catherine Deneuve. Thus Lloyd started with a navy palette, adding pops of white or kelly green to a windowpane check on a knee-high skirt and waist jacket suit, or a scribble swirl pattern on a silk twill pleated circle skirt. A touch of “Gaelic whimsy” came through in cascading ruffles on the placket of a twill gabardine trench and the neckline of a polka dot dress. And in classic French fashion, navy and cream jersey stripes were shown on a belted fitted blazer, as well as on a coordinating leather handbag.
