For resort, Huishan Zhang wanted to show a fun side to his sophisticated woman, part of an international set who has a varied schedule while on holiday.
For the first time, the designer experimented with denim, as seen on voluminous trousers, or a blazer covered with pearl flowers. He also branched out this season by adding playful elements and finishes in the form of metallic embellishments, intricate embroideries and dainty lace — like the 3-D blossoms that cascaded across the bodice and down the chiffon skirt of one long dress.
Zhang is known for his lace handiwork, and it was evident here: in a floral pattern on dresses, skirts, a cropped jacket and tops, some with a ruffle trim; decorating a long white cotton skirt here, appearing as the pocket of a sandy, frayed linen blend jacket there. Layers of delicate tiered lace composed the elegant evening gowns, both long and short.
Soft whites and pinks comprised the palette, but was offset by black, sandy brown and blue.
