Viewing Creatures of Comfort’s resort collection in a retail environment — the label’s Mulberry Street store — underscored the commercial viability of Jade Lai’s designs. She infused her slightly left-of-basics with the “don’t give a f–k” attitude of the 1978 Jamaican film “Rockers,” which she described as a “Robin Hood for reggae” story for those who haven’t seen it. Colors were bright, a little funky in their shades of yellow, pink, red and green, worked on floral prints and crinkled pleated off-the-shoulder dresses and wrap tops.

The collection had plenty of that cool-girl awkwardness that is popular among a certain type, but also had its share of sexiness in the bare-shouldered looks and nonliteral, downtown girls takes on corsets.
