Well-known for her own artisanal flair, Novis designer Jordana Warmflash looked to Australian artist Esther Stewart for her resort lineup. Warmflash translated her inspiration without being too literal: Stewart’s geometric, two-dimensional paintings were referenced in color-blocked dresses and separates, but handled with the Novis touch in experimental textures and bright, contrasting hues. While a simple silk dress had the clean lines of Stewart’s work, it was done in hand-crochet to slightly sheer, breathable fabric. Other standouts included a shift dress done in silk faille with individually hand-embroidered silk chiffon tubes, and an ivory fringe jacquard dress with plenty of surface texture and handmade glass buttons produced in Germany.
Warmflash said she put a lot of emphasis this season on learning more about her customer and providing pieces derived from past bestsellers. Iterations of her short-sleeve button-down shirts, introduced last spring, reappeared in pastel hues and with long-sleeves — creating an easy, oversize cover-up. A long vest was reincarnated as a red origami-esque top with side cutouts, ideal for pairing with matching trousers or one of the fluid maxiskirts. Clearly, the designer has honed in on the Novis clientele’s craving for a diverse wardrobe of highly wearable pieces.
