For their resort 2022 collection, PH5 designers Wei Lin and Zoe Champion approached knitwear with an enhanced digital perspective. The duo spent the pandemic reimagining their highly technical approach to the craft.
The look: PH5 envisioned a color palette reminiscent of digital codes of communication and what shapes or patterns their collisions of light would create after dark.
Quote of note: Resort evolved from an imaginary scenario in which computers, which spent much of the lockdown idle, were suddenly given the ability to create a collection of their own.
Key pieces: Strong signature asymmetrical wave hemline shirts in different hues of blue; a jewelry collaboration with Ty’s Grocery, an emerging Chinese brand, that captures the lineup’s playfulness through its sculptural resin forms and incorporates interchangeable stones in a set of knit gloves; fun navy blue cardigan with a light blue lining, and buttons paired with a pleated navy and pink skirt.
Takeaway: Wei Lin and Zoe Champion stayed true to their brand but got a bit more creative while quarantining, evolving their futuristic knitwear with fresh silhouettes in Mouline colorways that reference the frantic zig-zagging motion of knitting machines.
