In their debut bridal collection for Sachin & Babi Noir, husband-and-wife team Sachin and Babi Ahluwalia gave their youthful clientele a range of well-considered silhouettes decked out with feminine touches, such as 3-D appliqués and floral-patterned lace. “We’ve had our [Noir] evening collection for about two-and-a-half years now, and the way we look at it is that [our girl] is grown up and getting married. We’re addressing her same needs,” Sachin said.
At the company’s Garment District showroom, models milled about in gowns that looked just as good from every angle — since a bride will “be standing for hours,” Sachin said — with plunging backs, back bows and sheer tulle trains. A strapless tea-length dress covered in shredded tulle embroidery felt fresh and playful; ditto an off-the-shoulder A-line gown in silk faille with exaggerated bow sleeves.
The Ahluwalias are watching out for their young customer in another way: Most of the looks in the 12-piece lineup will retail for less than $5,000 and the collection will also offer accessories, such as jewelry, gloves and veils.
