The rhythm and blues of the Mississippi inspired Emilia Wickstead’s ultraladylike collection. Wickstead had her customer’s sophisticated lifestyle firmly in mind from the get-go, opening the show with a pink matelassé full skirt and a cropped jacket with bracelet sleeves and a crisp little collar. She played with volume, creating dramatic shapes as in a yellow, short-sleeve cape coat over a floor-sweeping, baby pink gown that was slightly shorter at the front. Cheerful pink and orange stripes on a neatly tailored dress called to mind the bars on sheet music, while a black-and-white grand piano print story closed the show.
