Inspired by a recent trip to the Canary Islands’ Gran Canaria, Douglas Hannant looked to its landscapes, dunes, sea and sky for spring. But there wasn’t a tropical print in sight; instead, the designer played with a palette of beige, blue, gray and nude. A rich metallic — used on everything from a tweed shorts suit to a heavily beaded evening dress — was meant to mimic how “the sunset turns the dunes gold,” said Hannant after the show.
Some of the tweeds and matching coat-and-dress sets looked a little too mature for their own good, but when Hannant played with transparency via sheer chiffons and delicate lace, the effect was light and airy.
