Andrea Incontri likes to interpret themes literally. The designer’s spring collection, according to his show notes, was inspired by a woman checking herself out in a car’s rearview mirror — and that was exactly the image he used in his fabric prints.
In an only slightly more subtle reference, oblong and circular shapes appeared as a jour embroidery on garments such as a metallic pink leather A-line mini skirt, while mirrors sewn onto a sheer black skirt made clicking sounds with every step.
With its overt use of reflective materials, including a silver fabric that resembled aluminum foil, the display felt more like a “Project Runway” assignment than a fully developed collection. Incontri would benefit from allowing his inspiration to run a little more freely.
