Alexandre Vauthier has found his golden formula — sexy, curvy, cool — and if his new showroom is any indication (he had to move to a bigger space due to growing demand) it is in no need of major tweaking.
Vauthier’s spring effort was almost a replica of his most recent couture collection, only rendered in more accessible fabrics and enhanced with a city-friendlier aesthetic. There were a few surprising firsts: Linen made its debut, and invitingly so, in the form of a chic pilot jumpsuit, an oversize safari jacket with missing sleeves and matching biker-inspired pants, while cotton was the fabric of choice for purposefully wrapped dresses and ruffled skirts.
Noting that his customer demographic has diversified, Vauthier said he felt the need to intersperse separates amid his vixen outfits. A highlight: an oversize perfecto, which still looked steamy when thrown over one of his signature column dresses. The concept also extended to shoes, with a new 5-centimeter (2-inch) heel complementing the label’s vertiginous footwear.
