How can you mix Victorian frills, country gingham and edgy streetwear into a cohesive fashion message? You really can’t, but that’s what Au Jour Le Jour attempted for spring, yielding a cacophonous collection that pinged from nylon warm-up jackets to prim neck-to-toe-floral dresses.
There was a stream-of-conscious feeling to this show — and a whiff of Vetements in the extralong sleeves and floral dresses. Design duo Mirko Fontana and Diego Marquez dialed down the logos this season, preferring to mash up sequins, frog and ladybug embroideries and loud prints.
The two men, who wear T-shirts and skinny jeans, also trotted out their first men’s looks: A couple of long, bi-level sweatshirts over basketball shorts and shiny sneakers.
