The collection was pure charm, what with little frogs marching across the backs of embroidered leather jackets, Victorian-era fairies floating over sparkly, diaphanous dresses, flowers with funny faces and sailor collars. Vivetta Ponti, who started her career at Roberto Cavalli and launched her contemporary label in 2009, said she was thinking about fairy tales and the work of the German film director and animation pioneer Lotte Reiniger. Part of the collection’s charm came from the designer’s fresh spin on the classics: There were sheer, featherweight anoraks embroidered with sparkly roses; a white-edged sailor-style top for a long black dress and Pierrot collar for a powder-blue one that was dotted with fairies, flowers and winged horses. Lush garden wallpaper prints spread over an Empire-line dress, while a tiered black one came with soft pink embroidery — all done with the lightest of hands and a childlike imagination.
