Innocence — the simpler times of youthful memories — inspired Carmen Marc Valvo’s spring collection. “I think, subconsciously, I was thinking about the 15-year anniversary of 9/11,” the designer said backstage. The result was a lineup full of nostalgic charm.
To achieve it, Valvo worked fil coupe, embroidered lace and floral appliqués into flirty drop-waisted cocktail dresses, playful bubble dresses and sweet maillot swimsuits — worn by models sporting hair bows and lacelike sneakers. Eveningwear, another specialty, ranged from a silk brocade and organza grosgrain-striped gown to a striped floral drop-waisted number.
Valvo also showed a few men’s wear looks — such as a brocade blazer worn over a striped T-shirt and ribbon-striped shirts — but the sense of innocence got lost in the translation.
