Black will always be a significant part of the Y’s collection, but for spring the freshest elements came in white. For the first time, the lineup featured white denim, done with raw edges in oversized boxy styles, one of the coolest of which was a skirt with suspenders styled with a white shirt and oversized white denim jacket. There was a softly utilitarian, painter (pre-paint) attitude to the look, which became more poetic with block shibori prints and inky abstract paisley on loose tank dresses and sarong skirts. Riffs on men’s shirting, including a khaki skirt spliced with a panel of fluid, pleated material of blue-and-white shirt stripes put the collection directly on trend.
