Salvatore Piccione looked to Brazil for his spring collection, with outfits that ran the gamut from pristine white to jungle hues.
The designer said the lineup was inspired by elements including the lost city of El Dorado, the Amazon rainforest and the otherworldly sand dunes of Maranhão. He might have added New Year’s Eve on Copacabana beach, when locals traditionally dress in white.
Indeed, his white dresses came in every conceivable variation: from a bridal version in satin with flower embroideries, to a casual beach outfit in white lace with a drawstring waist. Skintight white cropped jeans were shredded in places and paired with folk-style blouses.
From there, he jumped to graphic scarf prints in supercharged rainbow hues; shimmery dresses in laminated silk jacquard, and a sequence of silver sequined dresses overlaid with sheer tulle dotted with three-dimensional flowers.
His romantic creations were about as Brazilian as Sophia Loren, but no matter – El Dorado was always a fantasy.
