For her spring 2018 collection, Nanette Lepore embraced the power of femininity in dressing to combat the unpleasant political realities. “Should we be political or in our combat gear, or should we be in our dream world?” Lepore stated on her back-patio during the look book shoot. She chose the latter, presenting a collection that channeled the feelings and softness of the Thirties, “because the actresses from the Thirties were so cool; they were really sexy and strong, they ruled the world and yet had a very feminine softness,” she said. Lepore approached her collection with dressing for such a woman, one who doesn’t feel forced to look hard.

This feeling was embodied through both slippy, lingerie type dressing with daywear, like an ethereal lace slip, and pieces that could be worn for the evening, like a sequined robe coat. The palette was light, with hints of pale pinks and blues. To round out the collection, Lepore continued her signature scarf prints on flowy tops, dresses and skirts with ruched details. The collection looked at-home during the look book shoot. Lepore happily opted out of a big show or presentation for spring, mentioning, “I’m waiting until everything settles and feels like there’s a rhythm to it again.”
