Kunihiko Morinaga redefined power dressing for the tech age with his spring collection for Anrealage. Focusing on the link between the human body and physical strength, this was a cross between ath-leisure and Wonder Woman with a twist.
Morinaga spliced kinesiology tape as a mesh of binding across his designs, some creating Renaissance-style bodices and bouffant sleeves in pastel shades on mesh or translucent fabrics for a Space Age Disney princess. Other tapes criss-crossed hooded jersey logo maxidresses with more of a street appeal, and more still formed checks and argyle patterns on otherwise transparent jackets with exaggerated sleeves.
The final looks took the powerful message to the max — the designer’s fluorescent “mechanochromic” fabrics actually lit up as the models moved along the darkened runway. Where others just talk about fashion tech, Morinaga walks the walk.
